Hearing continued for teen suspect in Miami Twp. hotel homicide

The case of the 17-year-old accused of murder in a late-night Miami Twp. shooting outside has been continued.

The next court date is Oct. 29.

Court officials held a conference this afternoon in judge's chambers.

INITIAL REPORT:

A 17-year-old from Moraine accused of murder for the late-night shooting death of a Miami Twp. hotel worker is set to appear in court today.

The teen has been in Montgomery County Juvenile Detention since Friday after he was arrested in connection with the killing of Miami Twp. resident Jayren Graham, 19, outside the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel late Thursday night, officials said.

Montgomery County Juvenile Court Administrator James Cole said given the charge and the age of the defendant, he anticipates prosecutors will seek to transfer the case to adult court.

Graham was shot in the head with a handgun just after 11 p.m. in the parking lot of the Prestige Place hotel across from the Dayton Mall, according to Miami Twp. police.

The defendant had a plea of denial entered and was appointed an attorney Saturday, county juvenile court records show.

Tips from the public led to the teen’s arrest Friday afternoon at an apartment complex in New Lebanon, Miami Twp. police Capt. John Magill has said.
