Feds: Dayton man admits to 10 armed robberies, plan to kill drug dealer

A Dayton man told investigators he committed 10 area armed robberies — including one at an Old North Dayton restaurant during which he got shot — and that he planned to kill a drug dealer, according to federal court documents.

Jeremaine (also known as Jermaine) M. Green, 35, is accused of violations of the Hobbs Act — interference with commerce by threats or violence — in a criminal complaint filed in Dayton’s U. S. District Court.

Green also is charged in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court with three counts of aggravated robbery and one count of having weapons while under disability.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) special agent Timur Housum wrote in his federal criminal complaint that he received an intelligence bulletin about eight local armed robberies.

Surveillance footage showed a light-skinned black male with a long dreadlocks, a baseball hat, dark jacket and dark pants in all incidents, Housum wrote, and that the robber brandished a gun in multiple robberies.

The Walgreens on Hoover Avenue was hit for $490 on Dec. 17, 2017; that same night a Sunoco gas station on Wayne Avenue was robbed for $335, Housum wrote.

The complaint said on Dec. 19, $208 was stolen from the LoanMax at 4301 N. Main St. and $2,200 was taken from Falb’s Restaurant on Kiser Street, during which shots were fired by an assailant and restaurant employee.

The document also detailed robberies of Dollar General stores on Valley Street, North Gettysburg, North Main Street and South Gettysburg during which a total of $1,693 was taken in late December and early January.

Housum wrote that a LoanMax employee told a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office detective on Feb. 27 that she saw a green Ford Windstar van drive through their parking lot.

The complaint said a parole officer said Green lost his job after being shot Dec. 19, 2017, the same day as the armed robberies of LoanMax and Falb’s, where gunfire was exchanged. Green reported to law enforcement that day that he was shot during a robbery attempt on Hepburn Avenue.

Law enforcement found that Green’s phone number showed up at towers near each of the robbery locations. On March 1, Housum wrote, Green admitted to 10 armed robberies that was to repay a prior debt after being fronted four ounces of heroin valued at $15,000.

“Green further admitted that rather than pay back the rest of the debt, he planned to murder the drug dealer he was in debt with by shooting him in the head (the next weekend),” Housum wrote.

Green was booked into Montgomery County Jail that day. A federal detention hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

The complaint showed that Dollar General receives shipments of goods from Indiana and therefore operates in interstate commerce. Housum also wrote that Falb’s sells Mikesell’s potato chips that use potatoes in production from outside Ohio, so they also operate in interstate commerce.

Green has pleaded not guilty in common pleas court to charges that include repeat violent offender specifications due to armed robbery convictions in 2000 and 2005. Green’s common pleas court trial is scheduled for May 21.
