7 police reports from the last St. Patrick’s Day that was on a Saturday

St. Patrick’s Day comes on a Saturday this year, which means more people likely will celebrate.

The last time it fell on a Saturday, in 2012, 29 people were charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and open container violations. That number tops charges from the last three St. Paddy’s Day holidays combined.

Here are seven wild things that Dayton police reports said happened the last time St. Patrick’s Day was on a Saturday:

  • A University of Dayton student told police that his laptop was damaged apparently by beer during an unauthorized party at his home. The young man told police there were 40 people at his house during the evening that neither he nor his roommates knew. One of the roommates discovered the party and kicked everyone out. The student said he believed the partygoers may have sneaked inside through a window.
  • A Dayton police officer who worked security at Flanagan's Pub on E. Stewart St., near UD, saw a 23-year-old man get kicked out of the bar for being disorderly. The rear area was fenced off to create an outside area for the bar and for bands. The patron pried open a section of chain link fence to try to sneak back inside the bar. He was arrested for trespassing.
  • A 26-year-old man told police he was assaulted by an employee of an Oregon District bar while he was out celebrating St. Paddy's Day. The man said he does not remember much about the incident, but his friends told him he was slammed to the ground following a verbal exchange. He later learned his right collar bone was broken.
  • A Dayton police officer on foot patrol in the Oregon District discovered a crowd of more than 75 people at East Fifth and Jackson streets. The crowd was watching a fight between two males. The police officer deployed pepper spray to break up the brawl. One of the men's friends allegedly yelled a racist comment and was arrested by the officer.
  • Dayton police were called to a hotel near the Oregon District. A 23-year-old man went out drinking with his sister and mother for the holiday. When they returned to the hotel, the man got into an argument with his girlfriend over the phone. After his sister took his phone, the man ran from his room and jumped into the window at the end of the hall. He hit his face but the glass did not break. He left after that and police could not locate him.
  • Dayton police were called to Masque night club at 34 N. Jefferson. They found an unconscious male on the ground between the curb and a parked vehicle. When the 36-year-old man came to, he first said he had been in a fight but then but said he couldn't remember what happened.
  • A man who left his car in a parking lot in the Oregon District that day discovered someone "keyed" his car and wrote a racist slur on his hood and trunk.
