The Springfield Police Division began its investigation Nov. 21 when they were dispatched to the Springfield Regional Medical Center in reference to an assault, an affidavit says. There, they met with a woman who was bleeding from the back of her head.
The woman told police she agreed to meet a woman at about noon at a store on Bechtle Avenue to sell her a microwave that was posted on Facebook Marketplace. The victim said the Facebook account contacted her again while she waited and told her that she was almost there.
“(The victim) stated she was standing outside of her vehicle leaned into the back seat cleaning the microwave she was going to sell,” the affidavit says. “(the victim) stated she was then struck in the back of her head with an object several times.”
The victim identified the suspect by name to police as the person who assaulted her with a semi-automatic handgun, according to affidavit.
The affidavit says the victim and Messer knew each other.
The woman said Messer told her to give him all the money she had, according to the affidavit.
“(The victim) was visibly shaking and crying when she stated she then remembered Mr. Messer stating he was going to kill her,” the affidavit says.
A next court date has not been set in the case.
