A man and woman have been accused of allowing a 17-year-old to live in a house with roaches, bed bugs and gnats, along with other dirty conditions.

David Holland, 53, and Rose Holland, 54, were charged with endangering children in Clark County Municipal Court.

Springfield police went to the home on a welfare check.

“Upon arrival officers spoke with the child victim who is 17-year-old, he stated that he has been living with bedbugs, roaches, fleas, verbal and psychological abuse from both,” the police affidavit says. “The child victim stated that (Rose Holland) often tells him he should kill himself and that they have life insurance on him and would be just fine.”

The Hollands allegedly told officers the child victim just wanted to live somewhere else. The affidavit says when officers went inside, they allegedly found roaches crawling on the floor and in the kitchen cabinets, and gnats flying around the kitchen.

“There were dirty dishes piled up on the counters and sink area up to the bottom of the cabinets,” the affidavit says.

When asked about the conditions, Springfield Police Officer Thomas Chrisman said the couple allegedly told him they had disabilities and the teenager hadn’t been keeping up with his chores.
