Warrant issued for Springfield man accused of punching woman

A warrant has been issued for a Springfield man accused of punching a woman he knows last weekend.

Walter Crawford, 49, faces domestic violence charges, according to a police report.

The victim told police she got into an argument with Crawford, her fiancee, at a home in the 700 block of Kenton Street. Crawford allegedly pushed her away and punched her on the face and head, according to the police report.

The victim then allegedly hit Crawford with an angel statue. Crawford then allegedly threw her to the ground and choked her, police said.

Crawford then got into his vehicle and the woman followed and allegedly broke the windshield and driver’s side window with a hammer, the report says. The fight resumed in the home and Crawford allegedly punched her in the ribs multiple times, police said.

A warrant was issued for Crawford’s arrest on Monday, court records say.
