Woman pleads guilty to overdosing in Springfield with child in car

A woman pleaded guilty after she was accused of overdosing with a child in the car, according to Clark County Municipal Court records.

Samantha Carter, 30, of Lima, pleaded guilty recently to a charge of endangering children, according to court documents, and was sentenced to a suspended 180 days in jail and must receive counseling.

Springfield police were called to a home on Imperial Boulevard in November, according to a police affidavit. A Ford Fusion was parked halfway in the driveway, the affidavit said.

“Officer Sullivan observed Ms. Carter in the driver seat with the keys in the ignition and a child victim in the rear seat of the vehicle,” the affidavit said. “Officer Sullivan pulled Ms. Carter from the driver seat and placed her on the sidewalk so responding medics could render aid to her.”

The child’s father arrived on scene and took custody of the child, the affidavit said, and Carter was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center where she received treatment.
