The 20-year-veteran, with the assistance of the teen’s boyfriend, was able to talk to the 18-year-old and get her off the side of the bridge. The woman said she was contemplating suicide, according to the sheriff’s office. She was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
Sheriff Richard Jones said he is always proud of the diligence and commitment of his deputies to keep residents safe.
Brown, who also is a member of the department’s marine patrol, has experience in similar situations and knows fast action is key.
“Like a lot of other things we have to deal with, it is split second, quick decisions and fortunately this turned out the right way,” Brown said.

He said he does not believe he is a hero.
“We don’t look at it as being a hero. We look at it as being there for the community,” Brown said.
When talking with the woman as she was being taken to the hospital, Brown said he told her, “this is never a solution, there is help out there … reach out for the help if you need it.”
