7 amazing times people from Dayton were featured on national game shows or talk shows

Dayton got a little recognition on “Jeopardy” earlier this year, but sadly none of the contestants knew the answer to the question regarding the location of Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

It’s not the first time the area has gained attention on a game show, though, and it surely won’t be the last.

Here are seven times that Dayton-area residents made their way onto national television for a game show, talk show or reality TV show.

1. ‘LIVE with Kelly,’ Oct. 18. 2016

Springboro resident Michelle Teska was the dancer for the Take Off Travel Trivia segment of "LIVE with Kelly." Teska, Cox Media Group Ohio's national sales manager, danced up a storm to C+C Music Factory's classic hit "Gonna Make You Sweat."

2. CBS’s ‘Candy Crush,’ fall 2017

Four locals made it onto the interactive game show hosted by Mario Lopez last fall. Dayton’s Emily Suter and Kettering’s Rachel Dement-Wilson, members of the Gem City Roller Derby team, competed in the season finale on Sept. 2, and Cedarville pastors/best friends Ken Winter and Evan Wicker competed on the show that aired Aug. 20.

Dunbar High School graduate Domonica Hawkins made it onto this popular game show during her junior year as a student at the University of Dayton. 5. ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ Sept. 10, 2014

Bill Reilich, a 2009 Centerville High School grad, was featured on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” playing DeGeneres’ gardener “Nick.” He drew attention by taking his shirt off to show how mad he was that Ellen was ending her “Classic Joke Wednesday” segment.

Reilich and his Cream Pies band from Centerville High—members Stevie Brock, Dan Burtenshaw and Dan Cox — had made it on the show as guests after drawing DeGeneres’ attention with a video love song to the host that January.

Then, just last year, Reilich was invited to become a part of the cast of E! TV’s “What Happens at the Abbey,” which premiered May 14, 2017.

6. ‘Price is Right,’ Dec. 14, 2015

Ludlow Falls resident Stephanie Rolf’s husband, Dustin, surprised her with tickets to one of her favorite TV game shows during their honeymoon in Los Angeles. Dustin even had matching neon green T-shirts secretly packed away, which they decorated together before going to the show to ask show host Drew Carey to “make our honeymoon dreams come true!”

Rolf was the second person called down to “Contestants’ Row” but stayed there the whole game. She was awarded $300 just for playing.

7. ‘Survivor: Palau,’ February-May 2005

Kimberly Mullen, who grew up in Huber Heights, competed on this popular show during its 10th season. The former model who represented Ohio in the 2002 Miss USA Pageant was selected to be on the Ulong tribe, but she lasted just four episodes. On the 11th day of competition, she became the first of the season to be unanimously voted off.
