Construction that started in recent weeks continues at Fairborn Police Department for renovations and upgrades exceeding $2 million.
The construction to add 4,200 square feet was originally estimated at $1.7 million, as the Dayton Daily News first reported last December.
Sgt. Willard Watts said the construction will add a new employee parking lot and employee exercise room.
A new addition will also house sergeants’ offices, a vehicle bay, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and employee training and break rooms.
The police department was first dedicated in 1976 and has only had cosmetic work done since then, Watts said.
“A much-needed remodel,” Watts said.
Existing sections of the department, including the chief’s office, will relocate within existing space. The police records and dispatch center are being remodeled, as well as new electrical and plumbing throughout the building.
The final cost of this project will be $2,251,615, Watts said. Work is expected to be completed by January 2018.
