Four more medical marijuana licenses issued in Ohio

The state of Ohio issued four more licenses Friday to medical marijuana businesses, including a lab testing license to Battelle Memorial Institute, an internationally known research and development organization founded nearly 90 years ago.

Another testing lab license was issued to North Coast Testing Laboratories, LLC, in Sandusky County.

That brings the number of licensed labs to four. The other two are Hocking Technical College and Central State University.

Columbus-based Battelle said on its website that “In times of growing usage, marijuana research is critical yet severely lacking.”

Battelle runs a public health center for substance use research and in October 2017 it received a marijuana research license from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

The Ohio Medical Marijuana program also announced processor licenses to Green Investment Partners LLC in Columbus and Standard Wellness Co. LLC in Sandusky County. That brings the number of approved processors to nine.

The state expects to license up to 40 processors.

In June 2016, Ohio Gov. John Kasich signed into law a new medical marijuana program that authorizes use by patients with 21 conditions, including chronic pain and cancer. Patients and their caregivers will be allowed to have up to a 90-day supply of edibles, oils, patches or other forms. Smoking and home growing is prohibited.
