Here’s how YOU can check out the new local gamer café before it opens

The Dayton area’s newest gamer café is ready to roll the dice and pour a few good beers, too.

Cardboard Crowns at 147 N. Springboro Pike (Ohio 741) in the Corners at the Mall retail center near the Dayton Mall in Miamisburg has announced its formal opening date of Nov. 6, but it will host several "soft-opening" events that are open to the public starting this Sunday, Oct. 29.

“We have received our food and liquor license officially now, and we’ve been doing staff training this week and working to get everything set up and ready,” Cardboard Crowns founder Ben T. Adams said. “We’re using the soft open as a fundraiser for some great groups here in the city.”

Groups that will benefit from the soft-opening events include Historic South Park (Sunday, Oct. 29), Greater Dayton LGBT Center (Monday), Film Dayton (Wednesday), and Equitas Health (Thursday). All events will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets for each event will be $25, with $20 going to the non-profit organization.

The café will offer eight craft beers on tap and a selection of 30 to 40 bottled or canned craft beers, along with wines and a limited cocktail list, Adams has said. The food menu features sandwiches, snacks and lighter fare.

The board games list is extensive. The selections ranges from lighter games to more involved, strategic games.

The new café’s concept is part of a national and local trend to combine gaming and drinks. Adams said he looked at about a dozen locations across the region, including sites in downtown Dayton, Beavercreek and Kettering, before selecting the 3,500-square-foot space at the Corners at the Mall location within the Miamisburg city limits.
