Huber Heights school superintendent to retire at year’s end

Susan Gunnell is resigning as superintendent of Huber Heights City Schools effective July 31, district officials announced Thursday night.

Gunnell was a teacher at Northridge Local Schools from 1980-84, then began her 35-year career with Huber Heights as a school psychologist intern. She later worked as supervisor of special education, director of student services, assistant superintendent of operations, and served the last seven years as superintendent.

“It has been a privilege to serve HHCS since the 1984-85 school year,” Gunnell said. “I am forever grateful to have had 35 years focused on improving outcomes for all students supported by a talented staff, supportive parents and community, and a dedicated Board of Education.”

The Montgomery County Educational Service Center, in conjunction with K-12 Business Consulting, will lead the process of selecting the next superintendent, district officials said. Updates on the hiring process will be posted on the HHCS website in the coming days and months.
