Acura SUV hits sales record

The Acura RDX, assembled in East Liberty, Ohio set a new annual sales record this year, beating a previous sales record of 52,361 units set in 2016.

Sales in 2018 have exceeded that figure with more than six weeks remaining in 2016.

Further, RDX has helped Acura to a 7.3 percent gain in luxury sport utility sales for the year, including a new all-time record for Acura SUVs in October. On a cumulative basis, all-time RDX sales now exceed 415,000 units, and RDX is the only model in its segment to top 50,000 units in sales every year since 2015.

Acura is Honda’s luxury brand, and Honda is a major employer in the region. About 1,400 workers from Clark and Champaign counties work for the automaker, and it employs about approximately 14,500 Ohioans overall. Several area companies, including KTH Parts Industries in St. Paris and Parker Trutec in Springfield and Urbana supply parts for Honda.

Five of the six models in the Acura lineup are made exclusively in central Ohio, using domestic and globally-sourced parts. That includes the ILX and TLX luxury sports sedans in Marysville Auto Plant, the RDX and MDX luxury SUVs in East Liberty and the Acura NSX supercar, which is built to order at the Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville.
