Auglaize County sergeant resigns, subject of criminal investigation

A former Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office sergeant is facing charges of assault and sexual imposition during an incident that occurred while the sergeant was off-duty in December, according to the sheriff’s office.

The alleged incident occurred on Dec. 9 while Brian Vernon was off-duty and was not on county property, Auglaize County Sheriff Allen Solomon said in a media release.

“Once the sheriff’s office was made aware of the allegations, Brian Vernon was immediately placed on administrative leave,” Solomon said.

Vernon resigned from the sheriff’s office on March 5.

Both charges Vernon is facing are misdemeanor charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

An Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office sergeant has resigned and is also the subject of a criminal investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sgt. Brian Vernon has resigned from his position within the department, according to a spokesperson with the sheriff’s office.

Additional information is expected to be released later this afternoon.
