3 suffer life-threatening injuries after crash with ODOT truck on I-75 south in West Carrollton

UPDATE @ 1:40 p.m.:

Three people in a car all suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing into an Ohio Department of Transportation truck on Interstate 75 south in West Carrollton Thursday.

TRAFFIC: Fatal crash blocks both directions of I-75 in Shelby County

Emergency crews were requested to the highway near the East Dixie Drive exit around 11:45 a.m. after the crash was reported.

The car drove off the left side of the road and crashed into an empty ODOT dump truck working in the area, Sgt. Jeff Kramer of the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

All three occupants were not wearing seat belts and were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries, Kramer said.

The crash shut down the southbound lanes of I-75 for a CareFlight medical helicopter to land and transport the driver to the hospital.

The right lane of the highway reopened around 12:30 p.m. with all lanes reopening around 1:30 p.m.

Troopers said the driver might have been distracted and led to the crash, however the cause and factors of the crash remain under investigation.

The right lane of southbound I-75 has reopened at East Dixie Drive in West Carrollton following a serious crash involving an Ohio Department of Transportation truck.

The left and center lanes of the highway remain blocked for the investigation.

Southbound I-75 is closed south of Dixie Drive in West Carrollton for a crash.

The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.

FIRST REPORT

CareFlight is on scene following a multiple vehicle crash with entrapment on I-75 at Dixie Highway, according to scanner traffic. I-75 is shut down between Dryden Road and Dixie Highway.

Crews are on scene working to remove at least two passengers from the vehicle.

Extent of injuries and number of vehicles are unknown at this time. Scanner traffic reported this as a serious accident.
