Councilman resigning from Riverside City Council

Councilman Steven Fullenkamp is resigning from Riverside City Council due to personal reasons, according to a letter of resignation.

His resignation is effective Christmas Day.

“Events of the past three years, including the actions of staff and council, have led me to decide that I can no longer be an effective councilman,” the letter read. “My reputation and my family name have been sullied by the untrue statements made by staff and council’s unwarranted and specious attempt to remove me from my duly elected position.”

He also thanked the residents of Riverside, saying “I’m grateful for the opportunity to have served you over the last eight and a half years.”

“You deserve a better council member than I can be at this point in time,” the letter continued. “I’m sincerely sorry that I cannot fulfill the commitment I made to you.”

A telephone message was left for Fullenkamp. We will update this story once he responds.
