Captain: Overloaded wires likely cause of Xenia house fire that rousts residents

UPDATE @ 11:58 p.m.: Overloaded wires likely are to blame for the house fire in the 400 block of South Detroit Street, Xenia Fire Capt. Jason Kinley said.

Two occupants were able to get out safely, he said, but they will not be able to return to their home until repairs are made. They'll be staying with relatives tonight.

Kinley said crews found fire in the ceiling and the flooring between the first and second floors in the kitchen area of the two-story home.

He estimated smoke and fire damage at $20,000.

INITIAL REPORT

Crews are working a house fire in the 400 block of South Detroit Street in Xenia.

We’re hearing the fire could be electrical.

The dispatch was made about 10:38 p.m. and crews arrived to see smoking showing from roof vents as well as smoke showing from the second floor.

There are no reports of injuries.
