UPDATE @ 11:35 p.m.: Two residents were injured and the family's dog was rescued in the house fire on Denny Lane that likely will be ruled an accident, Riverside Fire Battalion Chief Shon Smith said.

One of the victims has been taken to Miami Valley Hospital, while the other was treated at the scene, Smith said. The family will have to stay elsewhere tonight because of the damage caused by what Smith said was "an aggressive fire."
Crews arrived to find a lot of fire showing from the rear of the house, the battalion chief said. Riverside firefighters, with help from Dayton, Wright-Patterson and Fairborn crews, quickly knocked down the flames.
Smith said the Dayton crew from Ladder 18 rescued the family dog.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Smith said, although he noted family members reported an incidence of smoking in a bedroom. Smith said to him, it sounds like the fire was accidental.
He said crews did not suspect lightning as a possible cause (storms containing lightning were in the area, moving from northwest to southeast, during much of Friday night, according to Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell).
Smith estimated the damage to the structure and contents at $20,000 to $30,000.
Crews are on the scene of a house fire, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof, in the 4800 block of Denny Lane in Riverside.
The fire was dispatched about 10:40 p.m. and we’re hearing that the occupants have evacuated.
We have a crew on the way. We will update this report as we get details.
