This Dayton charity ranks second in the nation

The Foodbank, based in Dayton, has been named the number two food bank in the nation, coming in just behind top-ranked Food Bank of Siouxland in Iowa, according to a new report.

Charity Navigator rated American food banks and related entities. The group considered many aspects for the ratings, including the food banks’ IRS forms, financial health and the organization’s website.

The data collected came from 2017.

In Dayton, The Foodbank raised $13,526,901, according to the report, and earned a Charity Navigator rating of 100 percent. The report said the Foodbank spent 95.3 percent of its expenses on programs and services.

The Foodbank serves Montgomery, Greene, and Preble counties through a network of more than 100 partner food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters, the group said.

Last year, The Foodbank distributed 12.9 million pounds of food to feed the 1 in 6 people struggling with hunger, it reported. For every dollar given, The Foodbank distributes four meals.
