A small, specialty frozen-yogurt maker to open new Dayton area shop, then look to expand

A Cincinnati-based frozen-yogurt chain that operates five locations in and around Cincinnati will open a new shop in the Dayton area this fall — and there could be more to follow.

Yagoot frozen yogurt will add a store in the Marketplace at Settlers Walk retail center anchored by Dorothy Lane Market (DLM) on Ohio 741 in Springboro. The space at 734 N. Main St. Suite B formerly housed a dog-grooming business.

The new yogurt shop’s franchisee is shooting for a Nov. 1 opening date, if all goes well with build-out and construction, Yagoot General Manager Eric Boettger said this morning, Thursday Aug. 30.

The presence of the Dorothy Lane Market store was an important factor in choosing the Marketplace at Settlers Walk location, and DLM also is helping to launch Yagoot yogurt pints packaged for retail sales in its grocery stores, Boettger said.

Yagoot, which opened its first shop in Rookwood Commons in Cincinnati’s Hyde Park in 2008, offers “tingly, tart” frozen yogurt that contains active cultures, Boettger said. It is Kosher and relatively low in calories, and Yagoot says it sources its yogurt from local, farmer-owned co-ops and hormone-free dairies.

In peak season, Yagoot stores employ 15 to 20, the company’s general manager said.

Yagoot and its Dayton-area franchisee are “absolutely” interested in adding more locations in the Dayton area after getting the Springboro shop up and running, Boettger said.
