3 juveniles in custody, officer hit during Harrison Twp. fights

Three juveniles were taken into custody Friday afternoon for multiple fights between students at Summit Academy Transition High School that resulted in a “signal 99” being requested for officer assistance.

While a Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy was struck during the incident, he was not injured, according to the report.

A fight broke out at the Eridel Drive school’s parking lot shortly before 3 p.m., after school let out.

Two students were involved in the fight and one of the student’s parents took the student home before law enforcement arrived on scene.

While deputies were speaking to school staff, another fight broke out in the lobby between a student involved in the initial fight and a third student, according to the report.

Once in the lobby, deputies noticed the third student pinned the first student against a wall.

Deputies commanded the third student to release him, but the student ignored them, according to the report.

A deputy grabbed the third student by his backpack to pull him off the first student.

While the deputy was in between them, the third student reportedly tried to go around the deputy to get to the first student.

Another deputy grabbed the third student and pinned him against the wall.

The first student was noted as looking very angry and kept clenching his fist, according to the report, so a deputy decided to handcuff him.

As the deputy was handcuffing the first student, a fourth student came around the first student and grabbed the deputy’s arm.

The fourth student tried to push the deputy away and swung a closed fist at the deputy, according to the report.

The deputy attempted to dodge, but was struck in the right shoulder.

Another deputy reportedly grabbed the fourth student by his book bag and neck and threw him to the floor with the help of the deputy who was hit.

The deputy ordered the fourth student to put his hands behind his back, but the student ignored commands.

The fourth student tried to get onto his knees and stand up, so a deputy struck his knees twice, according to the report.

A “signal 99” request for officers needing assistance was issued by a deputy at that time due to students shoving and shouting around the deputies in the lobby.

Another deputy arrived and helped handcuff the fourth student.

The third and fourth students did not report any injuries from the incident, according to the report. Both declined medical treatment.

The first student was booked into the Montgomery County Juvenile Justice Center on disorderly conduct. The third student was booked on disorderly conduct and obstructing official business and the fourth students was booked on assault of a police officer and resisting arrest.

A court summons was issued for the second student for disorderly conduct, according to the report.
