Museum of USAF to celebrate National Aviation Day

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will celebrate National Aviation Day with a free Family Day event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

National Aviation Day, held on the anniversary of Orville Wright's birthday, is a celebration of all things related to aviation.

The event will allow museum visitors to learn about achievements in aviation and aerospace from the Wright brothers' first flight to modern Air Force technology.

Activities include hands-on demonstrations, a Make It-Take It workshop and Storytime.

A variety of activities showcasing Air Force technology past, present and future will take place in the STEM Learning Node located in the Space and Research & Development Gallery.

In addition, visitors will be able to build and fly their own balsa glider (while supplies last) to help them learn about controlling an aircraft in flight.

All activities are free, no advanced reservations necessary.

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force is the world's largest military aviation museum. With free admission and parking, the museum features more than 360 aerospace vehicles and missiles and thousands of artifacts amid more than 19 acres of indoor exhibit space.
