Ohio No. 1 in U.S. for Mega Millions jackpot-winning trusts


Ohio is the leader among states for Mega Millions jackpot winning tickets claimed by a trust, corporation or registered group.

The Buckeye State added to its lead last week when the ABC XYZ Trust came forward to claim the $142 million winning ticket sold May 4 at Fat Daddy’s Road Dog in Moraine.

Since Mega Millions started in 2002, 12 winning tickets were claimed by registered groups either living in – or buying the lucky ticket in – Ohio, according to the list of winners on the lottery organization’s website.

Texas ranks second on the list with six, followed by Michigan (four) and New York (three), according to Mega Millions.

There are several advantages to a trust, including anonymity, asset control and professional management, according to legalzoom.com.

In all, more than 160 jackpot winning Mega Millions tickets have been sold, with 33 of those claimed by a trust, corporation or registered group, according to Mega Millions website.

•May 4 - $142 million won by the ABC XYZ Trust with a ticket purchased in Moraine, Ohio

•January 5 - $451 million won by Secret 007, LLC, of Port Richey, Fla.

2016

•November 18 - $83 million won by ADirectConnection LLC of Georgia

•October 11 - $49 million won by the It Will Buy Me a Boat Revocable Trust of Rockwall, Texas

•July 8 - $536 million won by Warren D, LLC, of Indiana

2015

•November 13 - $202 million won by the Lucky Duck Passive Trust of Columbus, Ohio

•March 24 - $58 million won by the Lucky 16 Trust of Manhattan, N.Y.

2014

•June 27 - $33 million won by the 6-27-14 Revocable Trust of Houston, Texas

•May 27, 2011 - $35 million won by MAIM Revocable Trust in Granbury, Texas, including P1 Gold Lottery Club of Belleville, Mich.

•November 9 - $25 million won by The Gravina Island Trust in Broadview Heights, Ohio

•June 11 - $36 million won by RRRLB Lottery Club of Kalamazoo, Mich.

2009

•July 7 - $133 million won by The Archibald Trust of Queens, N.Y.

•May 1 - $227 million jackpot - 3 winning tickets ($75.6 million each), including The Ross County Beneficiary Trust of Chillicothe, Ohio

•December 12 - $207 million won by The Piqua 207 Group of Piqua, Ohio

•May 16 - $196 million won by The Anthony Trust in Amelia, Ohio
