Ohio National Guard cancels Florence recovery mission

The mission has been cancelled, according to the Ohio Army National Guard. No other information was immediately available.

First report: 

Twelve soldiers with the Ohio National Guard are being deployed to assist with recovery efforts following Hurricane Florence.

The soldiers, which are based in Columbus, will leave at noon from the Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base.

The team will be heading to the Raleigh, North Carolina area and are being sent after Gov. John Kasich signed an agreement this morning.

“They will be deployed on state active duty as part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) signed by Kasich, which is a mutual aid agreement between states and territories of the United States and enables them to share resources during natural and manmade,” a release said.

The soldiers will be travelling in four Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck tankers with approximately 9,000 gallons of aviation field and two other vehicle.

The Soldiers will provide refueling support for military helicopters being

used in hurricane recovery efforts.

The Ohio National Guard has more than 16,000 personnel and is the nation's fourth-largest National Guard. The Ohio National Guard responds with ready units and personnel when called for federal, state and community missions, and is an operational reserve of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.
