Englewood gas station to remain closed after break-in

The Marathon gas station in Englewood was broken into early Wednesday morning.

OTHER LOCAL NEWS: Rash of break-ins reported at area gas station overnight

“They took a few cigars, they pulled the wires off our register, so we’re down. We can’t do anything as far as business,” said District Manager Stace Kauffman.

Initial reports indicate police responded around 3:20 a.m. to the business at 311 S. Main St., and found a shattered front door.

“It was a mess to clean up. Glass was all over the store. That was the worst part in this situation,” Kauffman said.

The suspect or suspects took a cash register but Kauffman said there was no money inside.

Police told Kauffman they think this break-in is connected to recent break-ins.

This is the second overnight break-in that has happened in the area this week.

Gas stations in Moraine and Riverside were victims of alleged ‘smash and grabs’ Tuesday where several suspects made away with two cash registers and cigarettes.

Kauffman said she oversees 14 stores.

“We have a lot of good surveillance. It’s not our first rodeo,” she said.

The store was closed and no one was injured.

Kauffman said she hopes to have the store open by noon as technicians need to rewire the registers.

According to a police broadcast, the suspect vehicle is blue.
