Two lifeguards performed CPR on a boy pulled from a Dayton swimming pool Thursday evening, but his grandfather said today the 6-year-old is “brain dead” and in a coma.

The 6-year-old boy pulled from the bottom of an indoor swimming pool Thursday evening is “brain dead” and in a coma, his grandfather Willie Hamilton said today.
Hamilton said his grandson, Niguel Hamilton, 6, was initially pronounced dead, and the family was called to say their final goodbyes. However, the boy all of the sudden started breathing and he was placed on life support at Dayton Children’s Hospital.
The city released this statement: “A thorough investigation is underway. Out of respect for the family involved, we will not be making additional comments at this time.”
Dayton fire officials said the boy was alive when they took him from the pool to Dayton Children’s Hospital Thursday.

The incident is currently under investigation and assigned to a detective, a Dayton police spokesperson said Friday, adding that no other information’s available.
There was a sign on the Lohrey Recreation Center’s door Friday morning indicating that its pool is closed.
EARLIER (July 12):
A child pulled from the bottom of an indoor swimming pool at Lohrey Recreation Center, 3266 Glenarm Ave., just before 7 p.m. Thursday was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital.
His condition was unknown.
“We have a child at the bottom of the pool ... been down there for 4 minutes,” a 911 caller reported to dispatchers. “We just pulled him out.”
A 911 caller said the child was between the ages of 6 and 8, and two lifeguards were performing CPR.
According to a witness, the boy was at the pool for swim lessons.
