UD, Premier launch exclusive dietetics program

There will be more openings for dietetic internships in the area through a new business deal between University of Dayton and Premier Health.

The graduate degree program at UD and dietetic internship deal with Dayton-based Premier — which operates Miami Valley Hospital — will gradually increase the annual local internship openings from eight to 24.

There are competing options for graduate education for dietitians, including a growing number of online options, but as part of this new deal only students enrolled in UD’s master’s program will be eligible to apply for Premier Health’s dietetic internship.

UD lists that for it costs $645 per master’s credit hour for its School of Education and Health Sciences for the 2018 to 2019 year.

The first class is expected to begin in summer 2019.

UD stated that this also will help entry-level registered dietitians meet future requirements that starting in 2024, a graduate degree along with an internship experience through an accredited program, will be required to sit for the registered dietitian nutritionist exam.

“With our new master’s in dietetics and nutrition and our partnership with Premier’s dietetic internship program, students can choose UD and Premier Health as a destination to complete all the requirements for the RDN credentialing exam,” stated Jennifer Dalton, director of the didactic program in dietetics.
