UPDATE @ 10:08 a.m. Nov. 30

The Greene County Board of Elections has certified the results from the Nov. 7 election, and the outcome in the close race for a seat on the New Jasper Twp. Board of Trustees was upheld.

Challenger Lisa Townsend beat incumbent Mike Rasey by two votes, 236 to 234, according to the final, official results.

The narrow margin of victory, less than half of 1 percent, prompted an automatic recount of the votes, which occurred Wednesday, and the elections board voted to certify the results this morning.

Townsend received 25.03 percent of the vote, while Rasey received 24.81 percent of the total votes cast.

Because the margin of victory was less than half of 1 percent, the votes must be counted again per Ohio law to verify the results.

Incumbent Michael Horsley was successful in keeping his seat on the board, as he came away with the most votes at 473, or 50 percent, according to the final, official results.
