12-year-old in critical condition, toddler thrown from vehicle after school bus crash in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI --WCPO- UPDATE @6:56 p.m.: A 12-year-old girl is in "critical" condition and a 2-year-old boy was thrown from a vehicle and hospitalized as well as at least 18 other children following the accident involving a school bus and four other vehicles, according to Lt. Steve Saunders.

The Pleasant Hill Academy bus and four vehicles collided on Winton Road around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

At least 11 children were transported by ambulance to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and nine others were taken by their parents to be checked out, according to our partners at WCPO.

Police said at least one adult was injured.

Winton Road was closed through the evening rush hour.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who are affected by this,” Saunders said.

A district assistant superintendent went to the hospital to help families.

The cause of the accident is not yet known but is described as complicated, according to Cincinnati police.

FIRST REPORT: A school bus and two other vehicles collided on Winton Road near a school Monday afternoon.

Lt. Steve Saunders, Cincinnati Police Department spokesman, said there were injuries.

The crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. near Dutch Colony Drive, not far from Cincinnati Public Schools' Jacobs Center.

Police were letting parents walk down to the bus to retrieve their children.

Winton is closed between Dutch Colony and North Bend Road.
