Boy Scouts retire flag in final Montgomery County fairgrounds event


After 165 years, Monday night marked the final event at the old Montgomery County Fairgrounds.

Boy Scout Troop 47 of Brookville, one of the oldest troops in the United States, was tapped to perform the official retirement ceremony of the American flag, bringing an end to a piece of history.

The 2018 fair, from July 9-15, will be held on the fairgrounds off Infirmary Road in Jefferson Twp.

The final farewell means there only will be memories left of the old fairgrounds for Leslie Wright, who was born and raised in Dayton.

“I used to bring my grandkids down here so they can watch the horses do their routines,” Wright said.
