Seven animals adopted from Greene Co. for ‘Clear the Shelters’ event

Many Animal Control Centers across the county are looking to ‘Clear the Shelters’ Saturday by offering free or reduced adoption fees.

Animal Control in Greene County stated pit bulls take up a lot of their shelter due to over-breeding and pit bull mixes have a harder time getting adopted than other breeds due to the stigmas that come with the dog.

Radar, a pit bull mix trying to get adopted at the Greene County Animal Control Shelter, was adopted once before.

“Radar was a very sad case. The guy who adopted him loved him. He’s a great dog, but he had some family members that had heard bad things about pit bulls and were very uncomfortable with him,” said Julie Homes-Taylor, Director of Greene County Animal Control.

The owner had to return Radar.

“Because of the pressure, he brought him back in. We want people to know that any dog can be a potential hazard,” said Homes-Taylor.

Not all of the dogs up for adoption in Greene County were pit bull mixes, but people who are looking for pets need to know everything before adopting.

“Do your homework first. Know what your animal was bred for and what’s going to be some of the requirements,” said Homes-Taylor.

Four dogs and three cats were adopted today from Greene County Animal Control.
