Scott Williams drove through a red light at the intersection of South Spring Street and Selma Road late on Sunday evening when his car was struck by another vehicle, according to a press release from the City of Springfield.

The victim was shot an unknown number of times before the accident, according to the press release, and investigators think the shooting occurred in the 100 block of Rice Street.

Officers reportedly located multiple bullet holes in the driver’s side door of the vehicle Scott was driving.

"Officers became involved in this incident when they were dispatched to the Spring Street and Selma Road on the report of a vehicle crash," said Springfield Police Division Chief Lee Graf. "It is possible that Williams was trying to drive himself to the hospital. The other party in the vehicle crash is in no way suspected in the shooting incident."
