Sweeten up your weekend: 4 things to do in Springfield

Need some ideas on how to treat yourself to a good time this weekend? Here are four events going on in the greater Springfield area that might hit your sweet spot.

1. The Sweetness of Peace

The Springfield Peace Center will host its 13th annual “The Sweetness of Peace” fundraiser on Sunday, Feb. 11, on the Wittenberg University campus. The event, to take place in 105 Shouvlin Hall, will last from 2 to 4 p.m.

Several nonprofit organizations from Springfield, including the Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestra and Choosing Hope Adoptions, will assist in helping attendees sample a variety of sweet treats donated by local caterers. All proceeds generated by the event will go to the organization’s annual Peace Camp, which will take place in June.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Peace Center, located at 224 W. College Ave. in Springfield, or at the door.

2. Diavolo

Kuss Auditorium at Clark State Performing Arts Center in Springfield will host 2017 America’s Got Talent finalists Diavolo on Friday, Feb. 9, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The group, known for their Architecture in Motion performances, will dazzle the audience with their unique blend of dancing and use of stage and props as they perform death-defying leaps and choreography in their innovative style.

Tickets for the performance start at $34 and are available through ticketmaster.

3. Waylon, Willie, Cash: Outlaws and Highwaymen

Enjoy an evening full of country favorites when the Springfield Arts Council hosts “Waylon, Willie, Cash: Outlaws and Highwaymen” on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Kuss Auditorium. The performance is set to begin at 8 p.m.

Music lovers will be able to enjoy a collection of favorites from country music legends Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash during the performance, including songs like “Walk the Line” and “On the Road Again.” The show will feature the same performers from last year’s “Oberson and the Everly Brothers” show and include recording artists from Las Vegas and Nashville.

Tickets for the performance start at $36 and can be purchased through ticketmaster.

4. The Springfield Professional Firefighters Ball

The Springfield Professional Firefighters Association will be hosting its fifth annual Professional Firefighters Ball at the Courtyard by Marriott, located at 100 S. Fountain Ave. in Springfield, on Saturday, Feb. 10. The event is set to begin at 6 p.m.

The event is meant to encourage and foster relationships between the firefighters and the community at large. Guests will be able to enjoy a dinner and a cash bar all evening. Entertainment will be provided by several local groups, including DJ Chill and Not So Loud Silent Party. All proceeds from the event will go to local charities.

Dress code is semi-formal for the public and Class A for firefighters. Tickets for the event are $35 and can be purchased through EventBrite.
