The wind will flow off of Lake Michigan which could help generate some scattered flurries over the next 24 to 36 hours.
But this more seasonable weather pattern will not last long as spring-like temperatures will make a return by the end of the week.
Storm Center 7 chief meteorologist Eric Elwell says a large area of high pressure will set up over the southeastern United States by the end of this week which will help pump up unseasonably warm air into the Ohio Valley for the weekend thanks to a clock-wise wind flow.
This warmth is expected to fuel severe storms along the Gulf Coast. While the Miami Valley will miss out on any major storms, temperatures will be on the rise and likely climb into the 60s by the end of the coming weekend. “There are some computer models that show parts of the Miami Valley could get very close to 70 degrees by Monday” Elwell said.
“Temperatures that warm this early in February is quite rare.”
In fact, it has been 17 years since Dayton topped the 70 degree mark in the Month of February.
We’ve only gotten that warm 7 times since 1935.
While many will likely enjoy the early spring-like weather, Elwell says it could the warmth could lead to some problems in the near future.
“We’ll have to not only be on the look-out for an early start to allergy season, but perhaps an early start to severe weather season.” Elwell stated. If we keep this pattern up, it is possible we could bring into the top 10 least snowiest winters on record.
