The driver of the sedan will be charged with failure to yield at a cross street. That driver apparently entered the intersection at East Hillcrest Drive, stopped for unknown reason and was clipped by the SUV, police said.

The SUV continued through the intersection, up a hill and into the wall of the apartment.

Police tell us the building’s owner is working to find lodging for the resident of the apartment that was hit, as well as for the resident of the apartment above the one hit.

Both will have to be vacated because of the damage.

The severity of the damage has yet to be determined.

UPDATE @ 8:15 p.m.:

At least one person has been taken to a hospital from the wreck that sent one of two vehicles through the wall of an apartment building on Riverside Drive in Dayton.

The person injured was in a small 4-door sedan that was left in the intersection after the collision, Dayton fire officials said. That person’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The person driving the SUV that ended up in the wall of the building apparently was not injured.

A resident in the living room of the apartment was not injured. The SUV broke through the bedroom portion of the apartment, fire officials said.

INITIAL REPORT

Police and fire/medic crews are on the scene of an accident involving a vehicle that has punched through the wall of an apartment building in the 2700 block of Riverside Drive in Dayton.

The incident was dispatched just after 7:30 p.m. The vehicle involved appears to be an SUV and at least one person has been taken to a hospital. We’re working to learn whether that person was the driver, a passenger or someone in the apartment building.

The car has breached a wall of what appears to be the front of the Riverside Apartments, at the corner of Riverside Drive and East Hillcrest Avenue. The SUV appears to be halfway into the wall.

Southbound Riverside Drive is closed to traffic until further notice.

We have a crew on scene. We will update this developing report as we learn more.
