Wapakoneta schools ‘soft lockdown’ lifted

UPDATE @ 3:16 p.m.:

Wapakoneta school officials have lifted a lockdown at the school after receiving information from the police department, according to the district.

We’re working to learn the status on the search for the teen.

INITIAL REPORT:

A 15-year-old boy walked away from his house this morning and police believe he may be armed with a weapon, Wapakoneta police said.

Wapakoneta schools are on a ‘soft lockdown’ due to the situation, which was reported on the east side of town, the school said in a social media post.

“We are limiting access to the buildings and keeping students in from recess until the situation is resolved,” the school said.

Officers said the teen may be armed with a rifle or an air-soft rifle.

“Our main goal is to find this individual safe,” police said.
