A police sergeant from Maine has sworn to serve, protect -- and if necessary, cook for his community.

Cumberland police officials said Sgt. Thomas Burgess checked on an elderly man Tuesday. When he discovered that the man was low on food and not eaten that day, the 28-year-old law enforcement veteran swapped his police cap for a chef’s hat.
