Medical marijuana: With Ohio product due any day, how many are in the program?

Find out which area doctors are approved to recommend pot

Ohio’s first medical marijuana could go on sale any day — maybe any minute — as the first testing lab and dispensary received state approval earlier this month to open.

After accepting patient registrations for three weeks, the Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program has received 4,440 recommendations for patients or caregivers. Of those, 3,036 have activated their registry card.

The fee for patients is $50 and $25 for caregivers, though veterans and low-income patients may be eligible for lower fees.

The number of physicians certified to recommend medical marijuana numbered 353 after the last group was approved by State Medical Board of Ohio on Dec. 14. Of those, 33 in Dayton area and surrounding region have been cleared.
