Middletown boasts: New arena bigger than Hamilton’s

The competition has already begun and the games don’t start until Saturday at Middletown High School’s new Wade E. Miller Arena.

Seating capacity at the new arena is over 2,000. But Middletown school district officials joked about another benchmark for a more accurate count.

“The correct answer is Hamilton plus 100,” Middletown City Schools Treasurer Randy Bertram said.

One thing is certain: the new arena’s seating capacity is 2,140 with space for 300 standing room along the running track, according to George Long, the district’s business manager.

“That was one of the benchmarks we used,” Long said of having a gym larger than Hamilton’s. “We had to be bigger than Big Blue.”
