Mom delivers baby in car on Interstate 75

Ohio Highway Patrol troopers were busy Wednesday morning with a number of non-injury fender benders due to slick roads and cold weather.

However, there was one call that was unexpected when a Monroe woman went into labor and delivered her daughter in a car this morning on Interstate 75 south near milepost 24 in Liberty Twp.

Sgt Brian Bost, of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Hamilton post, said Nick Richards pulled his vehicle over onto the right berm at about 6 a.m., where his wife, Elizabeth, delivered a baby girl.

Nick Richards told dispatchers, who had already sent troopers and an EMS unit to their location, that he was going to drive over to West Chester Hospital.

Troopers responded to the hospital’s emergency room where they found the Richards and their new daughter being treated and admitted by the emergency room staff. Both the mother and the daughter were in good health, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.
