Monroe is considering several incentives for an auto parts supplier that wants to expand.

UGN Inc., which opened a plant in Monroe about three years ago, is deciding whether it will bring 100 more manufacturing employees and around $6 million in payroll to the city or to Valparaiso, Ind., as previously reported by this news outlet.

Monroe is considering these local incentives:

  • A 50 percent corporate net profits rebate for eight years. Officials estimate that value at more than $1 million.
  • Waiving the city's portion of building permit fees associated with the expansion. Officials estimate that value at $16,000.
  • Extending a water incentive in the form of a lower water rate for 7½ years. Officials are recommending extending that water incentive for 2.5 years to bring it to a full 10 years. The value is estimated at $50,000.

UGN makes acoustic, interior trim, and thermal management products, and it is based near Chicago and has seven locations. It built its $50 million, 232,000-square-foot Monroe operation in 2015 and has hired about 280.

City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. today to hear the second reading of legislation that would provide the local incentives.
