On the eve of the Montgomery County Food Summit, county commissioners are expected to approve spending more than $170,000 to help fight food insecurity locally.

The money will help The Foodbank operate a mobile distribution program in Montgomery County through 2021 to assist those without reliable access to affordable, nutritious food, a problem that affects 65,000 county residents, according to officials.

County commissioners will vote on the measure this afternoon.

More details about the program will be announced Wednesday morning at the opening of the 8th Annual Food Summit. This year’s theme, “From Farm to Fork: Growing a Stronger Food System,” will focus on local growing and food distribution.
