Trump, Kasich order flags lowered to honor slain journalists

President Donald Trump and Gov. John Kasich have ordered flags on federal property and state property be flown at half-staff through sunset Tuesday to honor five newspaper journalists slain in Maryland’s capital.

Trump issued a proclamation Tuesday ordering the flags fly at half-staff through sundown.

Five Capital Gazette newspaper employees were killed Thursday when a gunman holding a grudge against the publication shot them in the newsroom.

“In accordance with the orders issued today by the President of the United States of America to honor the victims of the attack perpetrated on June 28, 2018 in Annapolis, Maryland, I hereby proclaim, by the authority vested in me as Governor of the State of Ohio by the Ohio Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flags of the United States of America and the State of Ohio shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout the state of Ohio, effective immediately until sunset, July 3, 2018,” Kasich said in a statement.
