But then this week the National Retail Federation increased their sales growth to a minimum of 4.5 percent year-over-year. And Walmart announced the strongest growth in more than a decade in sales at established stores.

Consumers have more disposable income, and in this area they’re getting some new options on where to spend it. Here are a few recent examples:
1. Farmhouse Cottage Company
The former pop-up shop at The Greene Town Center opened its first permanent location this month, selling modern farmhouse décor.
2. Marc’s Grocery Store
Known for deep discounts, the grocery store chain opened its first Dayton-area location this month at 2100 E. Whipp Road in Kettering, formerly the site of a Kroger.
3. A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts
The art supply store is planned at the Cross Pointe Center at 251 E. Bell Road, in a spot that formerly housed a Home 2 Home.
4. The Room Place
The Chicago-based home furniture store is planning two area locations, one at the Dayton Mall and one at the Mall at Fairfield Commons.
5. Burlington Stores
The discount retailer formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory is opening a location at 5545 Executive Boulevard in the North Heights Plaza, a spot that formerly housed an HH Gregg.
