NEW DETAILS: Ex-Miamisburg teacher indicted for having sex with student

A former Miamisburg Middle School teacher is set to face multiple charges this month for an alleged “sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student” in late May, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jessica Langford, 32, of Centerville resigned from the district amid allegations she was sexually involved with a student, according to school district records.

She was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury this week on three counts of sexual battery and three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

“On or about May 23” Langford “did engage in sexual conduct with another….and the other person is enrolled in or attends that school…” the indictment states on three of the charges.

The indictment does not specify a specific age or gender of a student, stating it involved one “thirteen years of age or older but less than sixteen.” However, a statement Tuesday afternoon from Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. said Langford “engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with a 14-year-old male student at the school.”

Langford is due in court on Nov. 28 for her arraignment. Attempts to reach her on Wednesday were unsuccessful.

“The victim disclosed the illegal activity,” according to Heck’s statement.

But Miamisburg school district officials became involved the last week of the past school year because “something didn’t sit right with another teacher, (who) brought it to our attention – to the administration’s attention,” Miamisburg Superintendent David Vail said Wednesday of the allegations Langford was having a sexual relationship with the student.

“We looked into it and at that point thought there was enough that warranted an investigation on our part,” Vail said. “(We) put the teacher on paid administrative leave immediately. And when that happened she resigned.”

The district then reported the issue to the Ohio Department of Education Office of Professional Conduct and Miami Twp. police became involved, he said.

Langford was hired in the Miamisburg district in 2006, records show.

Miamisburg City Schools records requested by this news outlet in the spring show the woman had a solid tenure in the district.

She was hired as a student-teacher in the fall of 2006 and was brought on full time in August 2008, serving nearly nine years at three schools while receiving good evaluations, records show.

“Her lesson plans are detailed and contain measurable objectives, teaching strategies and an evaluation plan for each day,” according to a 2012 review. “Professional reflection on the lessons observed was completed.”

One document indicates she “has high academic expectations for her students” and “the teacher makes the content comprehensible by making connection to past learning.”

The paid administrative leave letter indicates Langford would not be permitted “on any district property” during the school district’s investigation.

Her one-sentence resignation letter states the decision was for “personal and professional” reasons.
