When the local Burger King franchisee’s CEO told us earlier this year that he was bullish on the Dayton area and was seeking to expand the burger chain’s footprint across the Miami Valley, he wasn’t just blowing smoke.
BK franchisee TOMS King Services is gearing up to open its fourth new Dayton-area restaurant in the last year, and also revealed the location of yet another new store in the works for 2019.
The first to come will be a new restaurant at 7151 Hoke Road at Salem Avenue in Clayton, which is scheduled to open in mid-January, Matt Carpenter, CEO of TOMS King Services , said this week. The new restaurant will create 25 full-time and 25 part-time jobs, a TOMS King Services spokesman said.
“We like the proximity to I-70, the amount of traffic at the intersection of Hoke and Salem, and the proximity to the nearby distribution centers and Miami Valley Career Tech School,” the spokesman said.
The new Clayton location joins new Burger King restaurants in Fairborn, in Washington Twp., and on Keowee Street in Dayton that have opened in the last 12 months.
And TOMS King is not done: Another new restaurant is in the early stages of development at the intersection of Cincinnati Street and South Edwin C. Moses Blvd in Dayton, with construction expected to begin in early 2019.
TOMS King owns and operates more than 100 Burger King restaurants across Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia, making it one of the 10 largest Burger King franchisees in the country.
“We’re excited about the Dayton market, and we think it is under-served.,” Carpenter told this news outlet in May.
The Dayton area’s municipalities and townships and chambers of commerce are more business-friendly than many other markets TOMS King operates in, Carpenter said. “Some places make it pretty difficult to do business,” he said.
In addition, the Dayton area’s real-estate and leasing prices are comparatively inexpensive, and its employment environment is strong, the franchisee company CEO said.
