The city of Oakwood paid 31 employees more than $100,000 last year, compared to 20 in in 2016, according to the I-Team Payroll Project searchable database of public employees.

Local governments make payroll with your money, which is why the I-Team has assembled and made available a searchable database of pay for public employees.

Oakwood’s highest-paid worker in 2017 was Assistant City Manager Jay Weiskircher, who retired last year and cashed out accrued leave to boost his pay from $122,597 in 2016 to $169,364 last year.

An I-Team investigation last year found the ability to cash out unused sick and vacation leave is a rare perk in the private sector, though local governments are on the hook for tens of millions of dollars worth of these payments.

3. Keith Benson, public safety lieutenant: $131,954

4. Charles Balaj, public safety lieutenant: $119,837

5. Jeffrey Yount, public safety lieutenant: $116,869

6. Kevin Pruszynski, public safety captain: $116,404

7. Carol Collins, leisure activities director: $114,300

8. Gregory May, public safety officer: $112,914

9. Robert Jacques, law director: $112,600

10. Michael Russell: public safety officer: $112,519
