3 reasons winter weather is shaping up to be record-setting

This is no normal Miami Valley winter. Some indicators show the region is poised to receive the lowest snowfall ever recorded and high temperatures seldom reached.

In the 60s: The Miami Valley has had as many 60-plus degree days since winter started as days with more than a trace of snowfall. Temperatures on Valentine's Day topped out nearly fifteen degrees above normal.

Record high on way?: Some computer models predict the region could close in on the 70-degree mark by Monday. It has been 17 years since Dayton reached 70 in February. It's only been that warm during the month seven times since 1935.

Little snow: As of Tuesday, Dayton had received just 7.2 inches of snow this winter, almost 9 inches below normal. That ties the lowest total at this point on the calendar in the last 15 years, according to the National Weather Service.

The Dayton forecast through the weekend:

Wednesday: A northwest breeze will pick up today with gusts up to 30mph. The cold air will also prevent temperatures from warming up too much. Highs reach the middle 30s. A few Possible passing flurries especially in the north. Chilly night expected with broken clouds.

Thursday: Coldest bus stop forecast of the week. Temperatures will start in the low 20s. Breezy but not as windy as Wednesday. Partly cloudy skies with a chance for flurries during the day or evening. Highs in the upper 30s.

Friday: The warm up begins. Temperatures will climb to the low 50s for the afternoon. Sunshine and scattered clouds.

Saturday: Dry start to the weekend with highs in the upper 50s. Sunshine and a few clouds. More clouds overnight with the chance for a stray shower as some moisture starts to stream in.

Sunday: Warmest day of the weekend around 60. Some scattered clouds and maybe a few sprinkles through the day.
