Ebony Radford, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and the suspected driver, Thurston Melson, 37, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and listed in serious condition.

Here are a few recent examples of police pursuits in the region.

Fatal incident in Dayton

Radford was as passenger of the vehicle that failed to stop at a traffic stop at Gettysburg Avenue and Oakridge Drive around 1:40 a.m.

Officials said the car failed to stop, turned right on Oakridge Drive, then lost control and crashed into an RTA pole after a short, 20-second pursuit.

Pursuit followed suspected Walmart theft

A grandmother allegedly left her 7-year-old grandson to flee police on foot in an incident that ended with a crash in Trotwood on July 10.

Diona Murray, 43, along with her daughter, the boy’s aunt, and the child, fled police after they were suspected of shoplifting at an Englewood Walmart. Englewood Police pursued Murray into Trotwood, where she crashed her vehicle into a barbed wire fence.

The 7-year-old boy provided police with information about his mother and aunt, and the two were later found and taken into custody.

Car crashes into house

What began as a simple traffic stop quickly became a full police pursuit that ended in a car slamming into a Springfield house on June 28.

A man and a woman were taken into custody after the chase, which left the house in Springfield with damage and a ruptured gas line.

The pair was trapped when the vehicle flipped onto its top after causing heavy damage to the house. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Stolen truck pursued

Police pursued a stolen box truck across several area communities on July 5 after it was stolen from a gas station.

The pursuit began after the vehicle was stolen from a Speedway gas station on Needmore Road in Harrison Twp. The chase continued into parts of Dayton and Kettering, and at one point a female passenger bailed out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Police eventually terminated their chase of the vehicle.

Into the river

A police pursuit in April ended in the Great Miami River after a driver fired shots at Dayton police.

The incident began when police attempted to stop Chase M. Younger, 29, for a dark window tint violation. Younger came to a sudden stop and then allegedly fired multiple shots at officers before fleeing.

Younger eventually drove over an embankment and crashed in the Great Miami River. Police found $18,000 in cash and 788 grams of marijuana in Younger’s car, they said.
